FREE BEER 6.0 – The Atlantic Brew

Monday, October 30, 2017 by freebeer Comments (0)

As part of the Atlantic Project, the renowned Danish artists’ collective SUPERFLEX are collaborating with the Plymouth-based Real Ideas Organisation (RIO), and local brewer, Summerskills, to develop a community-owned brewery in Devonport, producing FREE BEER. All profits from this social enterprise will be returned to the community, in what is one of the most deprived boroughs in the UK. The first brew of FREE BEER version 6.0 (the Atlantic brew) will be launched at Tate Modern, along with SUPERFLEX’s Turbine Hall commission, on Monday 2nd October at 7.30pm.

FREE BEER version 6.0 (the Atlantic brew) is an open source beer based on classic ale brewing traditions but with “added real ideas” from RIO. The recipe and branding elements of FREE BEER are published under a Creative Commons license CC BY-SA 4.0, which gives you the permission to produce, modify and make FREE BEER available to others by the following conditions: “You must credit SUPERFLEX and RIO / Summerskills”. If you change, modify or create a derivative of FREE BEER you must distribute the result under the same license.

The Atlantic Project is a pilot for a new international festival of contemporary art, taking place in public contexts and outdoor locations across Plymouth, UK, from 28 September 2018. Curated by Tom Trevor (Artistic Director), the project has been developed as a partnership between The Box (the £40million re-development of Plymouth City Museum) and Plymouth University, hosted by Peninsula Arts, in the lead-up to the Mayflower 400 anniversary in 2020. The Atlantic Project is part of Horizon, a two-year visual arts development programme (2016-18), led by Plymouth Culture, funded by Arts Council England’s Ambition for Excellence fund and Plymouth City Council.

Please be alert not to break the law

Thursday, November 20, 2008 by freebeer Comments (0)

Extra Taiwan øl info:

“It was a pleasure to be invited by SUPERFLEX and Taipei Fine Arts Museum to produce FREE BEER TAIWAN version. I personally strongly support the concept of Creative Commons and am more then happy to participate in this project. It’s difficult to brew beer in Taiwan; the ingredients are difficult to get and regulation are rather strict. Therefore, to those friends who are willing to start making beer; please be alert not to break the law.”
– Mr.Wen, Owner of North Taiwan Brewing company

In collaboration with 2008 Taipei Biennial, FREE BEER TAIWAN will be exhibited and distributed during the exhibition periods. You can find at the following stores at http://www.wretch.cc/blog/usadvd/3001561

Lessig: How much RMS has won

Tuesday, September 2, 2008 by freebeer Comments (0)

Lawrence Lessig:
“Just returning from the iCommons Summit in Sapporo, Japan. The Free Beer project made a showing, with a locally brewed version. But this ad caught my eye: “Free Beer” for “500 yen.”

We’re now at the stage where (at least some) the RMS conception of “free” is clear enough so that even “free beer” is “free as in free speech” such that a price running with the free beer seems (again, to a select set no doubt) perfectly natural.”

18h – The Free Beer Intellectual Property Pub Quiz

Free Beer is an ‘open brand’ – all material associated with Free Beer, including the logo and recipe, is released under a Creative Commons licence, and can be used or modified by anybody.
The FB-IP-PQ is a set of classic pub quiz questions about music, food, pirates and the unjustifiable encroachment of intellectual property law on all areas of life for the benefit of corporate capital.

1 point for each correct answer unless otherwise stated.

Cervejaria Germânia is making FREE BEER in Sao Paulo

Sunday, November 25, 2007 by freebeer Comments (0)

Freebeer 5 liter germania
A new version of FREE BEER that will be displayed at the gallery Vermelho relies on a partnership with “Cervejaria Germânia”, which, besides producing the beverage adjusting the recipe to the Brazilian palate, will also distribute the product.

The association between Germânia and FREE BEER meets one of the prime objectives of the project, since it builds an open business, which, starting from a real product, questions the copyright system, in relation to intellectual property.

The FREE BEER will also be featured in the exhibition by a series of machines – “Counter-game strategies”. In a game format, the machines, whose rules will be displayed next to them, simulate the fashion of the social economic system, with its production and distribution, competitiveness, collaboration, earnings and profit. These machines will be spread around the gallery and visitors will be able to handle them freely.
